The Birth of A Flower
A short time before my sister passed away she had written me a letter. In the letter she told me that she had started an experiment. Instead of planting the lily bulbs in a pot, she had just gotten two big bags of Miracle Grow potting soil and had put the bulbs in the bag. I didn’t think anything more of it.
When I went to her house to get some of her things, along with some plants, her husband took me over to the garage and on the side of it were two bags. He told me he had no idea what it was but there were these green stalks coming out of it. He said if I wanted them to take them. I told him that I knew exactly what they were and yes I wanted them. Those were the ‘experimental’ lilies. I brought them home and the most beautiful flowers grew from them. One was red and one was pink. I planted them into pots and each year they have grown and multiplied. After a couple of years the bulbs had multiplied so well I was able to give my mom some bulbs as well. Every spring when they bloom it is a reminder to me that spirits never die and a new day will always bloom. To some people they are just flowers. To me they are a reminder that there was once a person on this earth that loved flowers as much as I did and would actually take the time to stop and smell them. How often do you actually drive along and take a minute to really look at the beautiful flowers that are blooming right this very minute? How often do you park your car and take the time to walk through those wonderful gifts that nature gives us each Spring? Wherever you are going can and will wait. But that few moments of time can never be replaced. You have to live your life while you are in it for all to soon it is gone. Cherish those you love for you never know when their last day will be. Also, don’t discount the written word. It has been lost in this day of e-mails and faxes. WRITE something on paper once in a while. It can be a comfort to those after you are gone. I have so many letters, it is such a joy to hold actual paper and actually see handwriting. :)

The second stalk is just starting to bud.
You can see how much shorter the second stalk is than the first one.
